Find Me on Substack

I am trying my hand at Substack.

I will still post thoughts and updates here, but many of those thoughts will start over on Substack. You can subscribe for free to receive weekly posts about what I’m working on, what I’m inspired by, etc, or you can do a paid subscription for $5/month or $50/year, in which case you will receive the weekly posts plus at least one digital download of an unreleased song each month, occasional special posts, and the ability to comment on my posts on Substack.

From now until October 31st, 2025, I’m running a special for my first Substack subscribers: receive 20% off of your annual subscription!

Here is an excerpt from my first post on Substack. You can read it for free here.

I love writing songs, but maybe even more than that, I love writing albums. About half of my albums/EPs are a general collection of songs I wrote around the same time (I Have Peace, Every Story Has an Author, Honesty, and Earthly), but the other half are collections of songs that I wrote specifically for an album, where all the songs share a common concept or theme (Those Other Psalms, Henny Penny, and Dwindling Light). I’m finding myself more and more drawn to the latter. Maybe it’s because the structure of a concept album helps guide and restrict me as I’m sitting down to write a song, directing my creative energy like a dam alters the flow of water in a river.

I have already fallen in love with the theme of my next concept album, but I want to write about ten more songs to really flesh it out. As you see, I’ve released a lot of music already, but I’ve always kept the gestation period of a larger project like this pretty private. This time around, I figure why shouldn’t I approach this in a different way —where I first announce the name and the concept of the album first, and then write the songs? This way, I’ll share updates as I go, and the whole process will be more of an open book and less like a private journal.
