Albumsssss Release Show

So many albums, so few release shows…

“I Have Peace” Release Show

The date is April 10, 2020. Everyone’s laughing about how we were all saying “two weeks to slow the spread”, and now a month later, we’re still self-isolating, quarantining, on lockdown, all the things. It was a strange time to release my first album into the world, a strange time to essential introduce myself as an artist. And a release show was not a realistic possibility.

“Every Story Has an Author” Release Show

November 20, 2020. Schools are meeting virtually, there is no vaccine for Covid and so there is still a reasonably high level of anxiety in the air. My dad had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer the prior year, and so I was extra cautious, not wanting to infect him. There was still so much that we didn’t know about Covid back then. I was very pleased to release my EP, “Every Story Has an Author” at that time, but looking ahead toward our first flu season + Covid, once again, I did not feel that a release show was a possibility.

“Honesty” Release Show

Fast forward to September 29, 2021, the day that I released my album, “Honesty”. However, that day fell about a week after I returned from a trip to Washington DC, where Matt and I both picked up Covid. So I celebrated the release of this album from my bedroom alone (literally alone, because I was keeping my distance as much as I could from our kids, not wanting to infect them). I was thankful that I hadn’t planned a release show, because if I had, I would have had the added headache of cancelling it, refunding all the tickets, etc.

“Those Other Psalms” Release Show

My next release was in July 2022: “Those Other Psalms”. Covid didn’t keep me from doing a release show for that one, but I kept a very bare bones budget for that EP. Thus, no release show.

Thank you for joining me on that walk through memory lane. But in case you haven’t been following me since the beginning, this gives the complete explanation as to why, after my third album/fifth release, is my first proper album release show.

Finally: Albums Release Show

I am so excited to finally get to have a release show to celebrate a new album. And this show feels like it has an extra weight, an extra importance, to me, because it is carrying the load for “I Have Peace”, “Every Story Has an Author”, “Honesty”, and “Those Other Psalms”. All of these projects have meant so much to me as a person and as an artist. I’ve always been able to celebrate their release in my own way, and of course, it has always been meaningful. But I have never gotten to have the experience of playing through those songs with a full band, and just taking a night to celebrate.

So much of art-making is hustle culture adjacent these days. As soon as you complete one task, you’re moving onto the next. Promote or perish, it seems. So for me, setting aside an evening — THIS SATURDAY — for the purpose of celebrating, sounds amazing.

We will have a full band, which consists of myself, Matt Crummy (you might know him), Sarah Vanderpool, Bryan Vanderpool (who you may or may not have met, but you are definitely familiar with his work — if you like the sound of my music, you are a fan of Bryan Vanderpool), Grey Lovelace, and Andersen Coates (who has his own album release party coming up soon!). Also, Brian Herrin — who is a lovely human being and also a very talented musician (pssst: he’s a fellow classically trained vocalist; but unlike me, he has lots and lots of opera roles on his resume) — will be opening for us. I am so excited to hear Brian’s set, and I am so excited to play with Matt, Bryan, Sarah, Grey, and Andersen, AND I am so excited to CELEBRATE!

And I sincerely hope you will join me! Get your tickets now (click photo below):
